13KM Ave in Safi

Boulevard Hassan II in Safi is a 13 kilometers stretch that make up the said Boulevard “C” of this city. It was initiated within the framework of the national program for upgrading of cities in Morocco.

The first idea was to create a ULC (Urban Landscape Charter) specific to this city which suffered from architectural marginalization for several decades.
The philosophy of the ULC developed for this axis of Safi is to be able to reserve an architectural landscape line of conduct relating to all aspects of the visual: Colors, textures, design of objects, etc… while adhering to the major requirements of the projects which consist of:

  1. The widening of lanes which went from 2 x 2 lanes to 2 x 3 lanes;
  2. Cancellation of the central reservation;
  3. The choice of specific ranges in lighting and signage;
  4. The establishment of an infrastructure for fertigation;
  5. The installation of new roundabout systems represented by different configurations of integrated fountains;

This last point acts as a high point materialized by five roundabouts, four of which are equipped with integrated fountains. The roundabouts were designed to act as urban landmarks, without altering the landscape and its horizons.
